Our Easter (Sunday) Best

This past Sunday, Jaxon celebrated his first Easter and we started the day by going to 8am Mass.  I hate going to Mass "alone", but when your husband is in the middle of the ocean, you really don't have a choice.  Well, I guess you have a choice, but of course we weren't going to not go to to church, so off we went!!!

Being Easter, we decided to wear our 'Sunday best' (I assume this phrase came about because folks wear their nicest clothes to church).  Jaxon's outfit was far too cute so of course I had to have a little mini photo shoot with him in it.

I mean, y'all, how cute is he?!

Before we headed out the door, I made Jaxon take some photos with me.  We very rarely get photos together because one, Nick is gone or two, Nick doesn't ever think to take photos, like I do.  So I got out the tripod and wireless remote and snapped some photos.  They went better than I expected; I did not expect Jaxon to even look at the camera since there was no one behind it to get his attention, but he surprisingly was looking in a good number of the photos.  There was NO chance of him smiling.  I'm one of the very few people who can get him to smile on demand (he smiles and laughs all day long so getting candid photos is easy, but staged and posed photos?  Nope.  He's all about pretending he doesn't know how to smile.)  So no smiles, but at least you can see his face and he's not fussing, so that's a win!

Jaxon was, as he is with most things, the star of Mass.  Sorry Jesus, but he stole your spotlight.  Throughout Mass, everyone kept waving at him, smiling at him, holding his hands, and he just hammed it up for everyone.  Anyone I made eye contact with would whisper or mouth, "He is so handsome!" to me.  (Does anyone else feel badly saying 'thank you'?  I mean, I don't know what else to say.  And I guess I did have a large part in creating him so thank you is appropriate, but I just feel weird.)  Either way, makes this mama proud that I'm not the one who thinks her son is just so stinkin' cute!!!

After Mass, Jaxon decided he was going to drive us home.  Sorry bud, not yet.  But with the way time is flying by, Jaxon will be driving tomorrow.

Once we were home, Jaxon took a nap while I cut the pin wheels I made the night before.  He woke up, we opened his Easter baskets, and then we headed to a friends house to celebrate with some lovely women and their kids, because all our husbands are in the middle of the ocean on an aircraft carrier and destroyers together.  It was sad to not have Nick home with us, especially for Jaxon's first Easter, but it's nice to have a wonderful group of women in the same situation to share these special days with.

I hope you all had a blessed and beautiful and wonderful Easter, surrounded by loved ones.
